The National League keeps the series alive by virtue of a 5 run first inning and knocked AL pitcher Cy Young out of the game with a second inning home run by Lou Brock. The NL team made several lineup changes in response to being down 3-1 in the series. Brock replaced a slumping Willie Mays and Pie Traynor was inserted to play 3rd, moving Rogers Hornsby to 2nd base, and Ted Simmons played catcher. First inning runs were delivered by hits from Hornsby, Aaron, Traynor, Musial and pitcher Sandy Koufax singled for an RBI as well. Ted Williams single scored Ty Cobb in the 4th and Babe Ruth hit a solo home run in the 7th for the AL team to account for their two runs. The NL team must win game 6 to force a game 7 otherwise the AL team will be the champions.
